Therapy Assistant

Who are therapy assistants? 

• Therapy assistants are speech pathology or occupational therapy students who are studying a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• They have completed training or a placement with Stronger Together Foundation. 
• They work with a supervising therapist to support your child. 
• They provide individualised therapy at a reduced cost. 

 How does therapy work? 

• The therapy assistant and supervising therapist create a therapy plan for your child. 
• They work together with parents, educators, and other therapists. 

 What happens in sessions? 

• Session 1: 
  • Parent meets with the therapy assistant and supervising therapist. 
  • You discuss your child’s goals and therapy priorities. 

• Sessions 2–5: 
  • The therapy assistant runs the sessions.
  • They receive regular supervision from the supervising therapist. 

• Session 6: 
  • A progress review meeting with the therapy assistant and supervising therapist.  
  • This session includes both the therapy assistant and supervising therapist, so both rates will be charged. 
  • You discuss your child’s progress and next therapy steps.

What to Expect

• Therapy assistants work closely with the supervising therapist. 
• They have supervision every two weeks with the supervising therapist to plan therapy. 
• Parents are encouraged to attend Session 1 and Session 6 to support goal setting.
