What is School Ready Kidz (Tap and Talk)? 

School Ready Kidz (Tap and Talk) is a 9-week program that offers an inclusive environment for children who are preparing to transition to school. This small group supports children to feel comfortable in their daily routines alongside their peers, whilst building skills through engaging play-based activities. This group program is run by a speech pathologist to provide specialist supports for communication development as well as support for communication device use.

Objectives

  • Build communication skills such as requesting, commenting, protesting, through the modelling and use of AAC (LAMP, Proloquo2go, signs, visuals)
  • Engage in small group activities, facilitated by an adult
  • Share experiences with peers and adults
  • Demonstrate independence skills, such as caring for belongings and managing zips on school bags
  • Familiarise with daily routines and transitions in a semi-structured group
  • Strengthen gross motor and fine motor abilities through play-based activities

Who should attend this program?

This group is for children who are transitioning to kindergarten in 2025 who would benefit from specialist supports to build their communication skills. Children who do not currently use a communication device are also welcome to attend.

When and where does it run? 

  • Wednesdays, 12.30pm–2.30pm (NSW school terms only)

The program is held at the Stronger Together Foundation in Castle Hill.

Who runs the program?

This group is facilitated by one of our speech pathologists and is supported by therapy assistants.
