Sensory Breakout Space
Creating more inclusive community experiences
Busy community events can be overwhelming for children with sensory processing differences. Crowds, noise, bright lights and unfamiliar environments can make it difficult for some children to participate comfortably in activities that other families may take for granted.
At Stronger Together Foundation, we believe every child should have the opportunity to be part of their community. Through our own family events and partnerships with local organisations, we help create more accessible and sensory-friendly experiences for neurodivergent children, children with disability or developmental delay, and their families.
Our Sensory Breakout Space
Our Sensory Breakout Space provides a calm, welcoming place for children who need time away from the noise and activity of a busy event.
Depending on the event, the space may include:
- noise-cancelling headphones
- weighted lap toys
- fidgets and sensory resources
- bubbles
- colouring and quiet activities
- comfortable spaces to sit, regulate and recharge.
Children can use the space when they need it before returning to the event when they feel ready.
Supporting inclusion in our community
Stronger Together Foundation partners with local organisations and event organisers to bring our Sensory Breakout Space to community events across our region.
We have supported events including the Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas celebrations and Glenhaven Carols, helping make these larger community experiences more accessible for children and families who may otherwise find them difficult to attend.
We also host our own inclusive family events at venues such as Inflatable World and Lollipops Playland. These events give children and their siblings opportunities to play, explore and connect in an environment designed with their needs in mind.
More than just a quiet space
Sensory-friendly environments can help children recognise what their bodies need and find strategies that support regulation and participation.
They can also give parents and carers greater confidence in understanding their child’s sensory preferences and advocating for the supports they may need in other community settings.
Most importantly, inclusive events give families the opportunity to enjoy experiences together and connect with a community where different needs are understood and welcomed.
