10 Questions with Ellen Witzlsperger
How long have you been working with Stronger Together Foundation? And what is your role?
I have been involved since the Foundation was first operational as Fit Kidz Foundation in 2014. Initially this was in a consultation role as an Educational & Developmental Psychologist, and then was employed as the Service Director in September 2015. When we transitioned to STF my role changed to CEO as I am also a director on the governing board.
What inspired you to work with kids? Was it the fun toys or something else?
I have always wanted to understand and people as people are so interesting, and in particular I wanted to help children. This came from a personal motivation.
What’s your go-to funny story from working with kids? (Spill the beans, we love a good laugh!)
I have caught another child’s vomit in my hands.
I used to travel to assess children in remote areas of NSW, and during an assessment in Murrumbidgee a family brought in their pet birds (uncaged) which decided to sit on my shoulders during the entire day-long assessment.
What’s the best part of your day? Is it that first sip of coffee or a little victory with a kiddo?
Seeing everyone’s happy faces! The staff and families!
What’s your favourite activity or game you play in sessions?
Reading Books!
When you’re not at work, where would we most likely find you?
At home with my kids & hubby!
Is there a book or movie that totally speaks to your work? (Bonus points if it’s a kid’s movie!)
I have a quirky sense of humour, and people sometimes find it difficult to read me. My movie selections probably reflect this – Drop Dead Fred.
What is your favourite animal? And do you have any pets?
We have a pet French bulldog, Layla. I have always loved big cats and have more recently become fascinated by macaw’s (beautiful birds).
What’s your guilty pleasure snack that powers you through a long day?
Coffee. Anything crunchy!
