When Luca was just 16 months old, his mum started noticing signs that felt all too familiar—regression in language, repetitive behaviours, and a sense that things weren’t tracking as they should. With an older child already diagnosed with autism, she recognised the signs early on. While the official diagnosis came at age four, her instincts had kicked in much earlier.
Thankfully, Luca was already under the care of a paediatrician due to concerns around growth and development. That same doctor also specialised in autism and ADHD, which made the diagnosis process relatively smooth. But emotionally, it was still a lot to carry.
“I felt overwhelmed,” Luca’s mum shared. “I’d been through this journey before and knew the challenges that might lie ahead.”
The family had already started speech therapy and OT, but discovering the Stronger Together Foundation on Facebook opened up new support and connection they hadn’t found elsewhere.
“It was so simple to get started,” she said. “Just a phone call and an email. It wasn’t complicated, and that made a big difference.”
What they found through the Foundation wasn’t just access to therapy—it was connection, understanding, and the support of a community walking a similar path.
“The best part has been meeting other families going through similar stages. You realise you’re not alone.”
Luca has also joined the Andy Bear Club, a program supported by generous donations that helps children develop the confidence and skills needed to start school.
“It’s been a turning point. He’s learning to follow instructions, build routines, and connect with peers. The independence and confidence he’s gaining will make a real difference as he gets ready for school.”
At this stage of the journey, every little step counts—and your support helps make those steps possible.
Your donation this EOFY will help more families like Luca’s access the services, programs, and community support they need.
