On Saturday 16 August, the Stronger Together Foundation hosted its fourth annual conference at Visy Dior Norwest. The event once again brought together parents, carers, professionals, educators and service providers with one shared goal: to connect, learn and grow as a community.
A Warm Welcome
The day began with a heartfelt address from Ellen Witzlsperger, CEO of Stronger Together Foundation, followed by an official welcome from Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor of The Hills Shire Council. With the program guided by our MC, Sandy Golder, the atmosphere from the outset was inclusive, uplifting and filled with anticipation.
Inspiring Speakers and Panels
This yearโs program balanced lived experience with professional expertise. The Parent Panel opened the morning with powerful reflections from local families, followed by the Therapy World Panel, which offered valuable insights into the supports available for children and their families.
One of the standout sessions was the keynote presentation from Sarah Hayden, bestselling author of Parenting Different. Attendees described her talk as inspiring and authentic, leaving many with fresh perspectives and encouragement for their own journeys.
Another highlight was having Atilio from Dads Speak on the Parent Panel, reminding us of the importance of diverse voices and perspectives.
The program also featured an engaging In Conversation session with Julie Charlton, Paralympian and advocate for inclusion through sport. Her story of resilience and passion inspired guests to embrace opportunities and celebrate strengths.
Canvas of Connection
The introduction of the Canvas of Connection gave every attendee the chance to contribute a piece of artwork to a collective mosaic. This creative activity was both symbolic and moving โ a visual reminder that when our individual experiences come together, we create something powerful and whole.
Exhibitors and Networking
Guests also had the opportunity to connect with more than 30 exhibitors, from support providers and local services to creative businesses and support organisations. People with disability were also showcasing their market stalls – which definitely was the highlight of the exhibition space. Families shared how much they valued discovering new resources, building connections and enjoying the sense of belonging that filled the exhibition hall.
First-Ever Inclusive Talent Showcase
This yearโs conference concluded with our first-ever Inclusive Talent Showcase, an unforgettable celebration of creativity and ability. The showcase offered performers a rare platform to shine. Many of these children donโt often get the chance to take part in events like eisteddfods, making this moment even more powerful. They poured their heart and soul into every performance, from music to dance to storytelling, creating an afternoon that was both uplifting and unforgettable.
